House Demo
A downloadable House Demo for Windows, macOS, and Linux
I made a house containing through a three-floor house (basement, ground floor, attic) and an outside area. Everything touch or walk on is wired to an interactive audio system. All sound design, Wwise integration, and gameplay scripting are mine.
What to pay attention to
1. Footstep Surfaces. Surface detection resolves what's under the player's feet and drives a Wwise Surface switch (12 materials, from gravel and slate to creaky wood and attic insulation) nested with a Walk/Run gait switch. Steps are triggered by distance travelled rather than timers, so they follow actual movement speed, including when you're slowed down in water.
2. Spatial audio. The house uses Wwise Rooms & Portals with diffraction and transmission. Sounds bend around doorways and are muffled through floors instead of leaking through walls. There's also room-specific reverbs to pay attention to, most easily identifiable in the basement.
3. Underwater. Entering the pond outside triggers a Wwise State that muffles all game audio (low-pass filter).
4. Beat-synced metronome. The pendulum and its tick are driven by Wwise music-sync custom cue callbacks, so the animation stays locked to the music's tempo, keeping track despite speed changes in the music's intro.
5. Interactables. Doors, drawers, lights, radio, TV, etc. Each have their own SFX in space with variations, all recorded using my Zoom microphone.
